Jeff Kinley Added as Southern League All-Star
June 9, 2018 - Southern League (SL1)
Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Southern League announced on Saturday that Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp left-handed pitcher Jeff Kinley has been added to the league's South Division All-Star roster for the 2018 Southern League All-Star Game on Tuesday, June 19, at Regions Field in Birmingham, Alabama.
Kinley is a Midseason All-Star for a second straight season, after he was a 2017 Florida State League Midseason All-Star with the High-A Jupiter Hammerheads. He pitched a scoreless two-thirds of an inning in 2017 Florida State League All-Star Game. Through Friday, Kinley was 3-1 with one save and a 2.84 ERA in 20 relief appearances this season. He had also allowed only 9.24 baserunners per nine innings, which ranked fifth among Southern League relievers, and held opponents to a .181 batting average - the lowest in his four professional seasons. Kinley, 26, is a native of Saginaw, Michigan, and was selected by the Marlins in the 28th round of the 2015 draft out of Michigan State University.
Kinley joins previously announced Jumbo Shrimp All-Stars - outfielder Monte Harrison, designated hitter Eric Jagielo, catcher Rodrigo Vigil, and right-handed pitcher Nick Neidert - in representing Jacksonville at the June 19 All-Star Game in Birmingham. Harrison, Jagielo and Vigil were named on Friday as starters for the South Division All-Stars. Right-handed pitcher Pablo Lopez and left-handed pitcher Jose Quijada were also announced as All-Stars on Wednesday, but each has been promoted to Triple-A New Orleans.
The 2018 All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, June 19, at Regions Field, home of the Birmingham Barons, at 8:05 p.m. ET.
The Jumbo Shrimp continue their series with Biloxi at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, when Jacksonville All-Star right-hander Nick Neidert (6-3) is scheduled to face Shuckers right-hander Cody Ponce (2-4). Gates open at 5:30 p.m., when the first 2,000 fans receive a Jumbo Shrimp Beach Towel, courtesy of 121 Financial and Hyatt Regency Jacksonville. For '90s Night, the Jumbo Shrimp will wear fauxback jerseys and caps. The jerseys will be auctioned off during the game. Following the game are Saturday Fireworks, which follow every Saturday home game through June 16.
