
M-Braves Blast Blue Wahoos 12-4 in Saturday Night Contest

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (26-36) defeated the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (25-35) 12-4 on Saturday night at Trustmark Park. M-Braves starting pitcher, Touki Toussaint led the way for the M-Braves on the mound and at the plate. In 5.2 IP, the right-hander allowed 4 H, 3 R, ER, 3 BB, and 6 K while also earning the win. Toussaint went 2-for-3 at the plate with a 2B, R and 3 RBI.
Toussaint gave the M-Braves an early lead 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after lacing a two-run ground ball single to left field, allowing both Luis Valenzuela and Connor Lien to score.
Pensacola responded in the top of the fourth inning by taking a 3-2 lead. Brian O'Grady produced the Blue Wahoos first run of the game by doubling on a sharp fly ball to right field. Nick Longhi scored on the double by O'Grady. Four batters later, Pensacola catcher, Chris Okey singled on a ground ball to left field which allowed O'Grady and Luis Gonzalez to score.
The M-Braves immediately answered in the bottom of the fourth inning as they tied the game 3-3 on a line drive solo home run from Valenzuela. Toussaint then followed with a two-run double off of the center field wall, giving the M-Braves a 4-3 lead. Alay Lago added a line drive RBI single, allowing Toussaint to score from second base, making the score 5-3 in favor of the M-Braves. The M-Braves extended their lead 6-3 after a wild pitch from Pensacola's Daniel Wright allowed Daniel Lockhart to score from third base.
Mississippi added two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, earning an 8-3 lead courtesy of a line drive single from the bat of Taylor Murphy. Tyler Marlette and Lien both scored on the double from Murphy.
The M-Braves exploded for four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Alex Jackson got things started by drawing a bases-loaded walk, which allowed Lago to score. Lien who has been one of the hottest hitters in the M-Braves lineup this week then drilled a three-run bases clearing triple to left field, extending the M-Braves lead 12-3.
Pensacola plated a run in the top of the seventh inning via a line drive solo home run from Narciso Crook, making the score 12-4.
Mississippi's Toussaint (3-6, 3.36) was credited with the win and Pensacola's Daniel Wright (2-4, 5.05) suffered the loss.
The M-Braves and the Blue Wahoos will battle each other for the third time in three days on Sunday night at Trustmark Park. The first pitch for Sunday's game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (CST). Atlanta Braves No. 13 overall prospect, Bryse Wilson (1-2, 7.43) is listed as the M-Braves Sunday starter. Wilson's counterpart on the mound will be Pensacola right-hander Keury Mella (4-3, 3.56).
