Birmingham Barons News Release

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons dropped game two of their five-game series against the Chattanooga Lookouts by a score of 5-3 in 7 innings at AT&T Park.

The Lookouts utilized the long ball to take a 3-1 lead after four innings. Darnell Sweeney's third home run in two games led off the bottom of the first against starter Nick McCully (3-7, 5.87) and gave Chattanooga a 1-0 lead. Daniel Mayora followed three innings later with a two-run blast, breaking a 1-1 tie and giving Chattanooga a 3-1 advantage.

The Barons fought back to tie the game at 3-3 in the fifth, loading the bases and plating runs on a Trayce Thompson RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Dan Black.

Mayora struck again in the bottom of the sixth, singling home Noel Cuevas and giving the Lookouts a 4-3 lead they would not relinquish. A Dan Wagner fielding error on a ball hit by Chris O'Brien later in the inning provided an insurance run for the Lookouts and extended the lead to 5-3.

Jhan Marinez (1-0, 9.00) and Robert Carson (S, 1) allowed one hit over 2.1 scoreless innings in relief of starter Matt Shelton as the Lookouts improved to 3-8 in the second half.

The Barons mustered just five hits on the night including a fifth inning base hit by Rangel Ravelo, which extended his hitting streak to a Southern League-best 17 games. The loss dropped the Barons to 5-6 in the second half and 34-47 overall.

The Barons will look to rebound tomorrow night as RHP Chris Beck (3-6, 3.43) takes the hill against LHP Chris Reed (4-5, 2.91). First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 PM CDT.
