Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, TENN. (JUNE 30, 2014) - The Generals (3-9/34-47) lost a heartbreaker to the Mobile BayBears (7-5/49-32) 6-5 on a two-out, two-run home run by Dustin Martin in the ninth on Monday in Jackson. It was the eighth loss in the last ten games for Jackson as they fell to 3-9 in the second half. It was the fourth straight one-run game for Jackson (1-3). Jackson fell to 1-6 during the current ten game homestand.
For the second night in a row the Generals dented the scoreboard first as Pat Kivlehan (3x4, R, RBI, BB) and Dan Paolini (0x4, R, BB) led off the bottom of the second with walks. Then with one out John Hicks (1x3, R, 2 RBI, BB) hit a two-run single to score Kivlehan and Paolini and give Jackson the early lead. Hicks advanced to third on an error and scored when Leon Landry (1x5, R, RBI) grounded into a force out to make the score 3-0 Generals.
The score remained the same until the fifth. Mobile loaded the bases with one out and Todd Glaesmann laced a double to left that brought home Evan Marzilli and Tom Belza with the first two BayBear runs. Jake Lamb score the tying run on a groundout by Dustin Martin and Mobile took the lead as Gerson Montilla tripled home Glaesmann and it was 4-3 BayBears.
Jackson was not done yet, however. With one out in the seventh Landry tripled to right center and Marte tied the game as he singled Landry home. Then with two out and runners on first and second, Kivlehan singled to score Marte with the go-ahead run and it was 5-4 Generals.
But the game was not over yet. With two out in the top of the ninth and David Colvin (0-1, 3.54) on the mound for Jackson Dustin Martin hit a two-run home run, his first hit of the game, to win it for Mobile 6-5. Colvin blew his first save of the season and suffered the loss as Kyle Winkler (2-0, 1.35) earned the win for the BayBears with Kaleb Fleck (2-3, SV 7, 3.49) picking up his seventh save.
The Generals and BayBears will play the middle game of this five game series Tuesday. Victory Sanchez (3-4, 4.61) will look for his fourth win as he will make the start for Jackson and Mobile will send Archie Bradley (0-0, 2.25) to the mound. The game will begin at 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
