Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

Down five runs in the fifth inning, the Chattanooga Lookouts (18-29) attempted to rally by scoring three unanswered runs, but couldn't overcome the early deficit and ended up falling to the Mississippi Braves, 7-5, on Military Appreciation Night at AT&T Field in front of 4,661 fans.

Chattanooga found themselves in an early two-run hole after Cedric Hunter hit a two-run blast. The Lookouts' were able to fight their way back from the early deficit in the bottom of the inning. Backed by new walk-up music, leadoff batter Darnell Sweeney led off the inning with a single to left field. After the infielder was caught stealing, Ryan Adams singled and moved to second on a bunt single by Jeremy Hazelbaker. With two runners on, O'Koyea Dickson laced a two-run double down the left field line to knot the game up.

The game was tied at two until the top of the third inning, when Hunter hit his second home run off of Lookouts starting pitcher Chris Reed (L, 3-3). The Braves added two more runs in the next inning to give them a 7-2 lead. Reed left the game after the fifth inning and finished the day allowing six earned runs on seven hits. Despite allowing a season-high six earned runs, the southpaw has an ERA of 2.93.

In the bottom of the fifth inning the Lookouts began to claw themselves back into the game. After a J.C. Boscan fly out, Noel Cuevas doubled up the middle. The outfielder was then brought home on a triple by Darnell Sweeney. Sweeney then crossed home plate on a wild pitch by J.R. Graham.

The Lookouts continued to build on their momentum in the next inning. The team loaded the bases on a Dickson walk, single by Scott Schebler and a walk by Mayora. Chattanooga cut the Braves' lead down to two when Mayora was plated on a double play ball hit by Boscan.

Over the next the three innings the Braves' bullpen shutdown the Lookouts' offense to secure the 7-5 victory. Tomorrow, Chattanooga will strive to tie the series up at two games apiece when RHP Andres Santiago (0-3, 6.08) starts against RHP Jason Hursh (3-3, 3.45). The first 1,000 fans to attend tomorrow's game will recieve a puzzle presented by Blood Assurance. Game time is set for 7:15 p.m. with gates set to open at 6:00 p.m.
