19-year-old Victor Sanchez (W, 1-1) earned his first Southern League win after allowing four runs (all earned) on seven hits in 5.0 innings, allowing two home runs in his winning effort.
Richard Vargas (SV, 2) held the Suns without a run over his 1.1 innings of work, earning his second save in four chances on the season.
Jay Rogers (L, 0-1) took the loss in his 2014 Suns debut after allowing seven runs (all earned) on 13 hits in 5.0 innings of work.
Greg Nappo worked two innings of scoreless relief, only allowing one hit over the course of his Friday night outing. Collin Cargill retired the Generals in order in an efficient top of the eighth inning, with Edgar Olmos allowing one unearned run on one hit and two walks in the top of the ninth inning.
The Generals wasted no time scoring on Friday, plating three runs in the top of the first inning. Jackson scored a run on a Jay Rogers throwing error and also picked up runs on a Dan Paolini RBI triple and a Patrick Kivlehan sacrifice fly and to grab a 3-0 lead after the first half inning of play.
The Suns had their response in the form of a pair of two-out home runs in the bottom of the second. Joe Benson (HR, 3) got the party started with an opposite field solo home run to right field to cut the lead to 3-1, before the Danny Black (HR, 2) drilled a two-run shot to right to tie the ballgame up at 3-3 after two innings.
The game would not be tied for long as the Generals received back-to-back RBI doubles from Dario Pizzano and John Hicks to take a 5-3 lead in the top of the third.
The Suns picked up a two-out RBI single from Brent Keys in the bottom of the fourth to cut Jackson's lead to 5-4.
Staying true to form in this back-and-forth affair, the Generals had their counterpunch, receiving a two-out, two-run home run from John Hicks (HR, 2) on an 0-2 pitch from Jay Rogers to push Jackson's advantage to 7-4 in the top of the fifth.
Following a Joe Benson two-out triple in the bottom of the eighth, Isaac Galloway drove him in with a RBI single to cut Jackson's lead to 7-5.
The Generals would add a run on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth. Jacksonville's rally would fall short, but they would receive a run-scoring triple from J.T. Realmuto in the bottom of the ninth inning to cap off Friday's scoring.
The Suns and Generals will be back at it on Saturday night, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. ET. The Suns will send out the lefty Justin Nicolino (2-2, 3.88), while the Generals are set to counter with right-hander Trevor Miller (3-4, 3.64).
