Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves will welcome its 2,000,000 fan on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 2014. Upon entry, the lucky fan will be showered with lots of gifts including the option to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, say "Play Ball" and meet the M-Braves players.

This is a huge milestone for the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. After more than 20 years in Greenville, SC, the Braves moved to Pearl, MS, and opened the gates to Trustmark Park for the first time on April 18, 2005. Since that time, more than 85 Mississippi Braves players have gone on to play in the big leagues for the Atlanta Braves and other various clubs.

The two largest Mississippi Braves crowds were in 2006 when Atlanta Braves legend Chipper Jones rehabbed for two nights in Pearl. Crowds of 7,652 and 7,577 filed through the gates on August 12 and August 11, respectively, to see the third baseman in action. The Atlanta Braves also played an exhibition game on March 30, 2013, for the first time. The A-Braves played the Braves Future Stars, drew 8,217 fans and sold out in less than 48 hours.

Trustmark Park also hosts other baseball events including the annual Governor's Cup game between Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Southern Miss also plays Mississippi State and Ole Miss each spring in Pearl. The largest baseball crowd in Trustmark Park history occurred earlier this season when 8,496 fans turned out for the Governor's Cup game on April 22, 2014.

The facility was recently named by Stadium Journey Magazine as the fifth-best facility in all of Minor League Baseball. Trustmark Park hosts the MHSAA High School Baseball State Championships each May and has hosted the CUSA Tournament twice. The stadium hosts other events throughout the year including Trustmark's Red Beans and Rice Festival and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk.

The Mississippi Braves and Trustmark Park combine to draw more than 300,000 people each year-200,000 of those during the 70 M-Braves home games. Trustmark Park has drawn fans from 43 states and several different countries within the past decade. The M-Braves have and will continue to provide good, quality entertainment for Mississippians for many years to come.

The Mississippi Braves is the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Since making the move from Greenville, SC, in 2005, over 85 M-Braves have gone on to play in the big leagues. The M-Braves have made postseason play three times and went on to win the Southern League Championship in 2008. Tickets are on sale now. Stop by Trustmark Park or call 888-BRAVES4 Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. For the latest news and updates, visit mississippibraves.com, facebook.com/mbraves and twitter.com/mbraves.
