Lookouts Drop Final Game of Series, 4-0

April 7, 2014 - Southern League (SL1)
Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

The Chattanooga Lookouts (2-3) and the Jackson Generals (3-2) closed out their only season series at AT&T Field Monday night on College Fair Night at the park . Right-hander Garrett Gould (L, 0-1) took the mound hoping to give the Lookouts a winning record for the first time in 2014, but was unable to do so because of a solid pitching performance by the Generals ' staff .

Gould had his low-90s fastball working very early in the game as 17 of the first 20 pitches he threw ranged between 92 and 93 miles per hour. Gould used that fastball to perfection, coaxing nine of the first ten batters to fly out.

Once the lineup card flipped over, he tossed in more off-speed pitches, but the Generals' hitters were well prepared. After giving up a run on back-to-back doubles in the fifth inning, Gould struck out Kevin Rivers to strand the bases loaded and limit the damage.

The Lookouts got into trouble again in the sixth, but they were unable to escape unschathed that time. The Generals brought three runs around to score, but only one of them was earned, since an error in deep centerfield changed the outcome of that inning.

The pitchers for the Jackson Generals had stellar performances, led by their starter, Jordan Pries (W, 1-0) who finished the night only allowing one hit in six inning of work.

The Lookouts have an off day on Tuesday before they take a bus ride up I-75 to Kodak, Tennessee on Wednesday to face the Tennessee Smokies for five games. RHP Carlos Frias (0-0, 7.20) is scheduled to make his second start of the season against RHP Dae-Eun Rhee (0-0, 4.50) of the Smokies in the first game of the series.

Notes: Daniel Mayora reached base on a throwing error by the Generals' second baseman, and with that, has reached base safely in each of the first five games of the season. Mayora also came around to score in each of the first four, including scoring the only run of the game for the Lookouts on Saturday night.
