April 7, 2014 - Southern League (SL1)
Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Huntsville (4-1) used a five-run second to propel the Stars to their fourth straight victory, winning 8-2 over the Jacksonville Suns (1-4) on Monday night from Bragan Field.
Left-hander Brent Suter (W, 1-0) would earn the win for Carlos Subero's club in his Southern League debut, firing five innings of two-hit ball, allowing just one run in the process.
Jose Urena's (L, 1-0) Southern League debut didn't go quite as smoothly. The 22-year-old righty took the loss after allowing eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits in 4.1 innings of work, including five runs in the second inning alone.
In the second inning, the Stars got a RBI single from Nick Shaw, and two-run base hits from both D'Vontrey Richardson and Nick Ramirez to give Huntsville a 6-0 advantage after one and a half innings.
The Stars wouldn't look back, adding on two more runs in the fifth inning to cruise to their fourth straight win heading into Tuesday's off day.
Jacksonville would only muster up three hits, with two of them coming off the bat of Joe Benson, including an opposite field solo home run in the fifth inning to break up the shutout.
The Suns bullpen continued their rock solid start to 2014, with Robert Morey, Grant Dayton and Nick Wittgren combining to throw 4.2 innings of two-hit, shutout ball in relief of Jose Urena.
Jacksonville will not have a game on Tuesday, but begins a ten-game road trip starting on Wednesday at 8:05 in Birmingham against the Barons. The Suns will finish up their road trip with a five-game series in Chattanooga before heading back to Jacksonville for a ten-game homestand.
Suns fans can listen to Wednesday's upcoming game on the Suns Baseball Network, 94.1 WSOS-FM or through www.jaxsuns.com, MiLB.com or the Suns iPhone or Android app, beginning at 7:50 p.m. ET with the Memorial Hospital Suns Pregame Show.
