Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (3-2) split a double-header with the Birmingham Barons (2-3) by winning game one 4-3 then dropping game two 8-5 Monday at Riverwalk Stadium. The Biscuits won the series three games to two.

In game one, the difference came in the third inning. Taylor Motter tripled in a run to get the Biscuits on the board - the first time all series Montgomery scored first - to make it a 1-0 game. Motter later stole home to give the Biscuits a 2-0 lead. Richie Shaffer then crushed a two-run shot to make it 4-0 Biscuits.

The Barons rallied for three runs in the third off of Biscuits starter, Michael Colla, but the Montgomery bullpen stayed strong and tossed three scoreless innings. Matt Lollis (2-0) picked up the win with Santiago Garrido earning his second save of the season.

In game, the Biscuits entered the seventh inning trailing 8-0. Riccio Torrez tripled-in two runs to start the rally. A few batters later, Motter drove in a run with a single to make it an 8-4 game. With runners on second and third and the Biscuits trailing by three, Kevin Vance (1) induced a game-ending fly out off the bat of Luke Maile for the win.

Michael Earley's solo shot off of Grayon Garvin (0-1) in the first inning was the only run of the game until the Barons scored three runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to take an 8-0 lead.

The Biscuits will travel to Mobile on Wednesday to start a ten game road trip. The first of five games with the BayBears is slated for 7:05 from Hank Aaron Stadium. RH Victor Mateo will throw for the Biscuits while RH Chase Anderson will be on the mound for the BayBears.
