Long Island Nets Fall to Maine in Hard-Fought Matchup

LONG ISLAND - The Long Island Nets (10-17), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, fell in a hard-fought contest to the Maine Red Claws (19-7) 118-114 tonight at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Long Island guard/forward Justin Anderson finished the contest with a game-high 33 points on 13-of-17 shooting from the field and 4-of-8 shooting from 3-point range to go along with eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block in 34 minutes off the bench. Two-way guard Chris Chiozza also had a strong game for the Nets, finishing with 25 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field with eight rebounds, six assists and three blocks in 34 minutes of action.

Brooklyn Nets assignee Theo Pinson added 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and two blocks in 36 minutes of play.

Maine guard Trey Davis led the way for the Red Claws, finishing with 29 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field, 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range and 3-of-3 shooting from the charity stripe while adding seven rebounds and two assists in just 22 minutes off the bench. Boston Celtics two-way guard Tremont Waters also had a strong performance, finishing the night with 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field to go with eight rebounds, 11 assists and five steals in a game-high 38 minutes of play, recording a double-double.

Both teams got off to a slow start to the game, scoring just 18 points between the two sides over the opening 5:46 of play, with Maine leading 11-7. Maine would go on to control play throughout the remainder of the first, taking a commanding 33-17 lead into the second quarter.

Long Island looked to answer back in the second, outscoring the Red Claws 22-8 over the quarter's opening 8:50 of play. Despite the hot start to the second, Long Island would go into the half down 52-42.

Long Island carried over its strong play into the second half, tying the game up at 66-66 with 5:22 left to play in the third. The Nets would go on to outscore the Red Claws 36-24 in the quarter, taking a narrow 78-76 lead into the fourth.

The two teams played a back-and-forth high scoring fourth quarter that featured 78 points between both sides. The Red Claws would ultimately go on to outscore the Nets 42-36 over the final quarter of play, securing the 118-114 victory.

The Nets play their next game against the Grand Rapids Drive on Monday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. ET at NYCB LIVE, while the Red Claws will travel to Westchester to take on the Knicks next on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 5 p.m. ET.
