
Long Island Falls Short to Santa Cruz Despite Late Rally

LONG ISLAND - The Long Island Nets (2-9), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, battled their way back into the game in the fourth quarter but ultimately fell to the Santa Cruz Warriors (6-6) 119-109 tonight at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Two-way guard/forward Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot led the Nets in scoring with 26 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the field and 5-of-10 shooting from 3-point range to go along with two assists and three steals in 35 minutes of play.
Long Island guard Jaylen Hands also had a strong performance for the Nets, tying his career high with 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field and 5-of-9 shooting from 3-point range to go along with five assists and two steals in 32 minutes of action.
The two teams got off to an even 13-13 start to the game, trading baskets over the first 3:49 of action. An 8-0 run down the final stretch of the first put the Nets ahead 26-25, but a late bucket by the Warriors gave Santa Cruz a 27-26 lead going into the second quarter.
Santa Cruz got off to a hot start to begin the second quarter of play, outscoring the Nets 16-6 over the first 6:00 minutes of play. The Warriors continued their strong play throughout the remainder of the quarter, taking a commanding 63-48 lead into the half.
Long Island came out strong to start the third, outscoring the Warriors 12-4 over the first 3:07 of play. The Warriors responded quickly, outscoring the Nets 27-16 over the remainder of the third as Santa Cruz entered the final quarter of play up 94-76.
After much of the same back-and-forth play to start the fourth, Long Island battled its way back, getting to within five points of the Warriors with 1:06 left to play. The Warriors responded with five straight points to close out the game by the final score of 119-109.
Santa Cruz guard Jeremy Pargo led the way for the Warriors with a game-high 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field, 2-of-6 shooting from 3-point range and 2-of-3 from the charity stripe to go along with four rebounds, six assists and two steals in 31 minutes of play.
Warriors forward Devyn Marble also had a strong game for Santa Cruz, recording a double-double in the contest with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field to go along with 11 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in 36 minutes of play.
The Nets play their next game against the Raptors 905 on Monday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. ET at NYCB LIVE, while the Warriors return home to take on the Bulls on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 5 p.m. PT.
