Greensboro Swarm News Release
(GREENSBORO, N.C.) - The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, today announced that it will team up with Academy Sports + Outdoors for the annual Holiday Shopping Spree for 20 local children. This season the shopping spree will feature kids from the YMCA of Greensboro and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greensboro with Swarm players and staff at a local Academy Sports + Outdoors location on Monday, December 9.
"We are thrilled to work with Academy Sports + Outdoors for this impactful event before the holidays," Swarm President Steve Swetoha said. "This afternoon is a lot of fun for the kids and for our players, who get to help them shop. The holidays are a special time and we are fortunate to play a role in making this a memorable season in the community."
"Academy Sports + Outdoors is excited to partner with the Greensboro Swarm to help local children enjoy more sports and outdoor fun this holiday season," said Liza Barrett, Senior Regional Marketing Specialist for Academy Sports + Outdoors. "As the shopping destination with the most fun gifts and gear, we're looking forward to making the holidays merry for our local communities."
The special evening for the kids begins at the Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. Beginning with a behind the scenes tour of an NBA G League facility, the kids will have the opportunity to shoot on the Swarm's court. From there, the children will go to Academy Sports + Outdoors where the players will be waiting to surprise them for the shopping spree. With guidance from the players, the kids will shop throughout the store for one hour and then take group photos after checking out.
The Holiday Shopping Spree, in conjunction with the NBA Cares' Season of Giving, is one of several events throughout the season the Swarm participate in to better serve the community.
