Ogden Raptors News Release
OGDEN, UT - It didn't take long for the Ogden Raptors to break out for a lead on the Orem Owlz Friday night.
The Raptors put up crooked numbers in both the first and third innings on their way to a 9-4 victory over their rivals from the south and kept pace with the Grand Junction Rockies for first place in the South division second half standings.
Jon Littell was at the forefront of a Raptors lineup in which every player had at least one hit. The outfielder, recently promoted from the AZL Dodgers, knocked in runs with a first inning single and third inning double, then added a double in the sixth inning of his best game in a Raptors uniform.
Ogden got things started in the first when Ronny Brito doubled in Daniel Robinson, who had reached on a fielder's choice. With two down, Littell drove in Brito with a line drive off the glove of the second baseman. Niko Hulsizer then singled up the middle to score Matt Cogen and make it a three-run frame.
The Raptors left runners on the corners in the second, but Cogen started another rally with a single to lead off the third before Littell drove his first extra-base hit in an Ogden uniform, a double off of Raptor Ridge. With one down, Tre Todd pull a single past first base to plate Littell. Kenneth Betancourt singled to center to put Todd on third, and Jeremy Arocho knocked in one with a sacrifice fly. Robinson was next, and he doubled off the left-field wall to score Betancourt and put Ogden up, 7-0.
The Owlz scored in the fifth, but a two-run Robinson double in the bottom of the fifth made it 9-1.
Orem scored three in the sixth, but that's as close as they came.
Caleb Sampen bounced back from a couple of rough starts with three scoreless innings and five strikeouts, and Justin Bruihl earned the win with two and two-thirds innings of relief. Orlandy Navarro finished the game with a pair of perfect frames and four strikeouts.
Game three of the four-game series is Saturday night at 7:00.
