Great Falls Voyagers News Release
Great Falls, MT - The Voyagers suffered a fourth straight loss for just the second time this season as Billings completed a two-game sweep with a 10-2 victory Thursday night at Centene Stadium.
Great Falls (23-23, 1-7) fell to 5-5 against the Mustangs in the season series. The Voyagers are now 16-9 at home. First-place Billings (22-24, 7-1) has won nine of its last ten games, and improved to 8-13 on the road. The Mustangs have won four in a row against Great Falls.
Billings jumped in front early again with a run in the top of the 1st. Zeek White led off with a single to center. White later stole second. Cash Case coaxed a walk to reach base. A fielder's choice moved White to third. With runners at the corners, a delayed double steal allowed White to race home. The Mustangs made it 2-0 with an unearned run in the 2nd. Jay Schuyler led off with a base hit to right. Juan Martinez followed with a single. Michael Spooner grounded into a double play and Schuyler moved to third. A ground ball error at second pushed the run across.
The Voyagers quickly tied the game with a two-run 2nd. Gunnar Troutwine started the frame with a single to center. Travis Moniot singled to left. Maiker Feliz reached on a fielder's choice. Troutwine scored the first run on a wild pitch. With two outs, Lenyn Sosa singled to center for a 2-2 tie. That base hit extended Sosa's hitting streak to 12, which matches the longest by a Voyager this season.
The top of the 4th proved to be rather large for Billings. The Mustangs scored four times to seize control. Dylan Harris led off with walk. Jay Schuyler singled to left and Harris moved to third. A ground ball to third resulted in Harris being thrown out at home. A two-out RBI double by Carlos Rivero gave Billings a 3-2 lead. With two on, Zeek White launched a drive deep to left that banged off the scoreboard for a three-run home run and a 6-2 cushion.
The Mustangs plated a run in the 5th on a leadoff solo home run deep to left-center by Mariel Bautista. They added three more tallies in the 9th for the game's final margin.
The Voyagers managed just six hits. Gunnar Troutwine posted three singles with a run scored. For Billings, Mariel Bautista and Jay Schuyler both collected three hits. Bautista drove in one and scored twice. Schuyler scored three times. Zeek White had two hits with three RBIs and two runs.
James Marinan earned the win with his longest start of the season. Marinan (1-1) lasted five-and-a-third and gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Davis Martin took the loss in relief. Martin (0-1) pitched one inning and allowed four earned runs on three hits with one strikeout and one walk.
Great Falls plays a three-game weekend series at Missoula Friday through Sunday before the three-day all-star break. First pitch Friday night at Ogren Park is scheduled for 6:35. The Voyagers return home after the all-star break for a seven-game home stand starting August 9th. For 2018 ticketing and promotional information, call 406-452-5311 or visit www.gfvoyagers.com.
