Billings Mustangs News Release
HELENA, Montana - The Billings Mustangs (7-2, 22-25) had their five-game winning streak snapped on Friday in a 13-12 loss in 10 innings to the Helena Brewers (6-3, 23-24) in front of 953 at Kindrick Legion Field.
The Mustangs saw early scoring give them a 4-0 lead after the top of the first. Dylan Harris doubled in three runs off Scott Sunitsch before Juan Martinez singled him in in the next at-bat. Harris ended up scoring four runs in the game in a 3-for-4 performance to go along with five RBI. It would be a new high for Harris in both RBI and runs scored.
The Brewers responded immediately with three runs in the first and seven runs over the first two innings to erase the four-run deficit. Luis Alecis was able to record just two outs before being pulled from the game. He gave up three runs on two hits in his shortest start of the season. Chad McClanahan hit a two-run homer in the second inning to give the Brewers their first lead of the night.
The game would see four ties with both teams holding multiple-run leads on multiple occasions on the evening. Five combined runs crossed the plate in the seventh to see the game move to an 11-11 tie.
Juan Martinez hit his fourth home run of the year in the game off Sunitch. Martinez went 3-for-4 with four RBI.
With the 10-inning game, the Mustangs have played in an extra-inning affair three times in the last four games. Dylan Harris, the designated runner would score in the 10th on a sacrifice to left from Jay Schuyler who served as a pinch-hitter. That would be the only run to score as all three batters were retired.
The Brewers elected not to utilize the sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the 10th inning with Jesus Lujano singling on the first pitch of the inning to tie the game. He would sneak into second after a throw cut off in the infield on the same play. He then scored three batters later on LG Castillo's game-winning single to seal the victory.
The Mustangs and the Brewers will face off in the second game of their three-game series Saturday at Kindrick Legion Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
