Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - The Lincoln Saltdogs staged a late rally on Friday, stunning the St. Paul Saints 5-3. Lincoln improves to 7-7 on the second half of the season.

Trailing 3-1 entering the top of the eighth, Lincoln scored four runs to turn the game around. With runners on second and third and one out, pinch-hitter Deacon Burns hit an infield single off St. Paul reliever Mike Bille (1-5) to cut the Saints' lead to one. Josh Burrus followed with an RBI single to tie the game at three, and Albenis Machado's RBI groundout scored Burns to give Lincoln the lead for the first time all night. Three batters later, Shawn McGill drew a bases-loaded walk for the final run of the night.

The rally made a winner out of Lincoln starter Jarrett Gardner (8-4), who pitched eight solid innings to tie for the league lead in wins this season. St. Paul scored single runs in the first, second and seventh innings against Gardner, who allowed eight hits and no walks while striking out four. Lincoln's first run came on a double-play grounder in the fourth inning, and Gardner trailed most of the night, but he lasted long enough to earn the victory.

Burrus finished the night 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI. On the mound, Chris Thompson pitched around two walks in the ninth to earn his tenth save for Lincoln and his 20th overall on the season.

The two teams will play the rubber match of the three-game series Saturday night at 7:05. Righty Brian Campbell will make the start for the Saltdogs.
