Big Innings Lead Captains Past Cats 12-4

SHREVEPORT- The Captains scored four times in the first inning en route to a 12-4 win over the Cats on Friday night at Fair Grounds Field. With the victory, the Captains have taken two of the first three in the series with Fort Worth.

Facing All-Star right-hander Jae Jung, the Captains got their first run on an RBI single by Selwyn Langaigne. The next batter, Jose Torres belted a three-run homer to left, his second long ball of the season for a 4-0 Shreveport-Bossier lead.

The Cats narrowed the Captains' lead to three runs in the second, but the Captains scored again in the third on an Andres Rodriguez RBI single for a 5-1 advantage.

Shreveport-Bossier broke the game open in the sixth with a three-run frame that included an RBI groundout by Langaigne, an RBI single by Kevin Griffin and a sacrifice fly by Dan Williams for an 8-1 lead.

The Cats scored three unearned runs in the eighth against starter Logan Williamson to cut the lead to 8-4.But in the bottom of the eighth, the Captains added four more runs, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Andres Rodriguez for a 12-4 lead.

Jung (4-2) allowed a season-high eight runs on 11 hits in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss. Williamson earned his seventh straight win, giving up four runs, one earned on six hits in 7 2/3 innings of work. His record on the season improved to 8-2.

Brian Fryer and John Allen both extended hitting streaks in the game with hits in their final at bats. Fryer's streak now stands at eight games, Allen's at seven.

The series finale is on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Matt Gibbs takes the mound for the Cats and will be opposed by Luke Massetti for Shreveport-Bossier. The Cats are back in Fort Worth on Sunday for a four-game series with Grand Prairie.
