Sioux City Explorers News Release

Sioux City.....Pensacola broke up a scoreless game with two runs in the fifth inning and went on to defeat the Explorers 4-2 Friday.

The two-run rally for the Pelicans came after two out when Adam Darby and Antoin Gray singled and Chase Burch drove them home with a base hit. The two runs came off losing hurler Nick Singleton.

The Explorers cut the lead to 2-1 in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly RBI by Nick McCoola, but Pensacola scored a run in the seventh and eighth innings to increase their lead to 4-1. The X's rally in the bottom of the ninth inning fell two runs short. Greg Stevens singled to score pinch runner Brett Mieras to cut the lead to 4-2. However, with runners at second and third and two out, Derek Schmerhorn grounded out to end the game.

The loss was the second straight for the Explorers who fall back into a two-way tie for first place with Lincoln in the American Association North.

The Explorers had eight hits, but the 13-game hitting streak for Jason Colson came to an end as the X's first baseman went zero for four.

The third game of the four-game series with Pensacola will be played Saturday at Lewis and Clark. Game time will be 7:05.
