
Lincoln Falls Just Short to AirHogs Again

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs came up just short again against Grand Prairie on Wednesday, dropping a 5-4 decision at Haymarket Park. Lincoln falls to 22-15 on the second half of the season.
The Saltdogs took a 2-1 lead to the top of the seventh inning, but Grand Prairie put runners on first and second with two out. Adam Daniels (7-3) then gave up a fly ball to right off the bat of Cesar Nicolas, which got over the head of right fielder Rafael Alvarez for a two-run double. Javier Brito followed with a two-run homer to put the AirHogs ahead 5-2.
Lincoln, however, launched a rally in the bottom of the ninth. Josh Burrus singled with one out, and Albenis Machado followed with a two-run homer, his second of the season, to make it 5-4. One out later, Norm Hutchins hit an infield single, and took second on a throwing error. Grand Prairie then intentionally walked Alvarez. Shawn McGill came up and drove a 2-0 pitch to deep left-center, but center fielder Mike Conroy ran it down to end the ballgame.
The two starting pitchers, Lincoln's Jim Paduch and Grand Prairie's Matt Green, traded strikeouts through the first six innings. Green struck out ten in his five innings of work, while Paduch struck out eight over 6.1 innings pitched. The AirHogs scored their first run in the first inning, but the Saltdogs took a 2-1 lead in the third on an RBI single by Hutchins and a fielder's choice grounder by McGill.
Machado finished the night 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Hutchins went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Phil Hawke also had a pair of hits on the night for the Saltdogs.
Lincoln will try to even the series against Grand Prairie Wednesday night at 7:05. Righty Jarrett Gardner is scheduled to make the start for the Saltdogs.
