Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs came up just short Monday against Sioux Falls, losing 8-6 at Haymarket Park. Lincoln drops to 31-24 on the season, 2-5 in the second half.

The teams were tied at two after three innings, but the Pheasants took control with a three-run fourth inning against Lincoln starter Noel Baca (0-4). Sioux Falls pulled further in front with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, but the Saltdogs started their comeback attempt with two runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh. Sioux Falls tacked on an insurance run in the top of the eighth, and although Lincoln plated a pair in the ninth, the comeback came up two runs short.

The story for the Lincoln offense Monday night was one of opportunities missed. The Saltdogs loaded the bases in the second inning with nobody out against Pheasants starter Ryan Shaver (6-0), and plated a run on an RBI single by Albenis Machado. A strikeout and a double play, however, limited Lincoln to one run in the frame. They loaded the bases with nobody out again in the seventh inning, this time trailing 7-2, and a Rafael Alvarez singled scored one run. The 'Dogs then hit into a double play, however, and even though a second run scored on the play, Lincoln left the inning still trailing by three.

Alvarez, who also homered in the first inning, finished the evening 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Machado went 2-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored.

Lincoln now heads to Wichita for a three-game that begins Tuesday night at 7:05pm. Right-hander John James will make the start for the Saltdogs.
