LINCOLN, Neb. - The Sioux Falls Pheasants responded twice to early runs from the Lincoln Saltdogs on their way to an 8-6 victory Monday night. The Pheasants won three of four games in the series and improved to 6-1 in the second half. They have the best overall record in the American Association at 37-17.
The Pheasants twice tied the game while trailing by one run in second and third innings. Gus Milner singled Brandon Sing home in the second and Beau Torbert drove in Reggie Abercrombie on the first of his two doubles. Tobert was 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Milner was a perfect 4-for-4 with one RBI.
Eddy Rodriguez broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning with a two-run double to give the Pheasants the lead for good. With Joe Anthonsen's RBI single later in the inning, the Pheasants rallied for three runs on five hits total in the inning.
Hunter Jobes added a two-run base hit in the seventh inning, and Tim Hutting singled home Joe Anthonsen in the eighth to give Sioux Falls an 8-4 lead.
Lincoln scored twice in the ninth on back-to-back leadoff singles and a pair of groundouts. But Juan Camacho's soft liner was caught by Reggie Abercrombie on a diving catch in center field to end the game.
Pheasants all-star starter Ryan Shaver (6-0) tossed six-plus innings and held the Saltdogs to four runs and six hits. He escaped a bases loaded, no-out jam in the second inning with only one run yielded. Shaver exited the game in the sixth with the bases loaded, and Rafael Alvarez singled to plate two Lincoln runners, cutting Sioux Falls' lead to 7-4. Shaver walked three and struck out seven while earning his sixth win.
Former Sioux Falls pitcher Noel Baca (0-4) took the loss. He allowed five runs on 10 hits in five innings. Baca walked one and struck out three.
