Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs completed a four-game sweep over Sioux City on Thursday, beating the Explorers 5-4 at Haymarket Park. Lincoln improves to 11-8 on the second half of the season.
The game seesawed back and forth, with Sioux City leading 3-1 after two innings before the Saltdogs scored three times in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. The game took a decisive turn in the sixth inning, after the Explorers tied the game and put runners on second and third with nobody out. Lincoln starter Brian Campbell (3-3) got Brett Mieras to line out to second, and Jason Colson was doubled off of second base for the second out. Campbell then retired McCoola on a popup to short to end the threat, and the Dogs took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning. Shawn McGill led off with a double off of X's starter Nick Sottung (0-1), and after a pitching change, McGill took third on a bloop single by Steve Alexander. Reliever David Trahan then threw a wild pitch, scoring McGill with the winning run.
The Explorers had taken an early lead with two runs in the first, and a solo home run by Mieras in the second. Lincoln got one run back in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout by Albenis Machado, and a pair of walks started the Dogs' three runs in the fourth. Shea McFeely hit a one-out RBI single, and two batters later, Josh Burrus hit a two-run single to put Lincoln in front.
Phil Hawke finished the night 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. On the mound, Adam Daniels tossed 1.2 scoreless innings in relief, and Chris Thompson pitched a scoreless ninth for his 23rd save.
The Saltdogs head south to take on Shreveport-Bossier Friday night at 7:05. Righty Tim Brown will make the start for Lincoln.
