Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release

Grand Prairie, TX. Two hits and a long fly ball that found the right-field seats was all Grand Prairie could manage against Diablos' starter Justin Mallet and the El Paso defense, as they fell 5-2 in the first of a four-game series.

Two Diablos reached base on with singles in the third inning, before a walk loaded the bases. Jorge Alvarez knocked in the first runs of the game with a two RBI single past a diving Daniel Berg, then Juan Camacho cleared them with a three-run blast to dead right to make it 5-0.

The score was knotted at 5-0 until a two-run ninth inning homerun by J.B. Tucker disallowed the shutout and brought the score to a final tally of 5-2.

Cordero left behind a line of five runs on nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Justin Garcia and Nathan Crawford finished the game almost flawless, allowing only one batter to reach when a Garcia fastball found Kennard Bibbs' back which turned out to be a non-event since he was picked off at second.

The story of the night was Justin Mallett who threw 141 pitches in nine innings of work and gave up only three hits. Before the Tucker homerun, Mallett had retired 14 batters in a row.

The series continues tomorrow at QuikTrip Park at Grand Prairie. Gates open at 6 p.m. with game time at 7:05 p.m. for another FreeStuff Friday sponsored by Parkland Community Health Plan. The first 1,500 fans through the gates will receive a free AirHogs t-shirt. For tickets, call 972.504.9383 or visit www.airhogsbaseball.com.
