ST. PAUL, MN (July 30, 2009) - The St. Paul Saints have found their stride as they swept the Sioux Falls Canaries with a 4-2 victory on Thursday night in front of 6,008 collecting their fifth straight win and six in their last seven.

Once again the Saints got a tremendous pitching performance from their starting pitcher Tom Buske. He hurled 7.0 innings allowing one unearned run on seven hits while walking one and striking out two. The only inning he gave up a run was the first when Tim Hutting reached on a fielding error by shortstop Steve Butler. Cody Haerther followed with a single to right moving Hutting to third. A fielder's choice by Beau Torbert scored Hutting to give the Canaries a 1-0 lead.

The Saints didn't collect a hit until the fourth, but not before the first two hitters Andrew Schmiesing and Jason Cooper led off the inning with walks. Brent Krause followed with a single to left-center scoring Schmiesing and moving Cooper to third. Three batters later Jeff Eure's sacrifice fly made it 2-1.

From there the Saints tacked on some insurance. In the fifth Alex Fonseca led off with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Schmiesing. Cooper then bounced a two-hopper to first that hit off the first base bag and bounced over Patrick Reilley's head for a base hit and scored Fonseca to make it 3-1.

In the very next inning Scott Knazek doubled to right center and two batters later Fonseca roped a single to left-center scoring Knazek making it 4-1.

The five game winning streak is the longest of the season for the Saints and the four game sweep of the series is the first four game sweep against an American Association team since May 8-11 of last season against the Grand Prairie AirHogs.

The Saints head out on the road for a three game series against the Sioux City Explorers beginning Friday night at Lewis and Clark Park beginning at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Mark Moriarty (1-3, 4.38) to the mound against Explorers RHP Ryan Harris (0-0, 5.40). The game can be heard live on Relevant Radio 1330.
