Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
WICHITA, KS - The Lincoln Saltdogs evened up their series against Wichita on Saturday, blanking the Wingnuts 5-0 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. The win keeps Lincoln in first place in the North Division of the American Association.
Lincoln starter Jarrett Gardner (6-3) was in control from start to finish, tossing his third complete game of the season. Gardner didn't walk a batter, allowing just six hits and striking out four. No Wichita batter advanced beyond second base all night, and only once did the Wingnuts have two runners on base in the same inning.
The Saltdogs, meanwhile, scored all the runs they would need in the top of the fifth. Lincoln loaded the bases with one out for Matt Maloney, who cracked a two-run single to get Lincoln on the board. A walk reloaded the bases for Dustin Yount, who came up with a two-run single of his own to double the lead against Wichita starter Gustavo Mata (3-5). Curt Miaso added an RBI single in the eighth inning to provide the game's final margin.
On the night, Yount finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a pair of walks. Maloney went 3-for-5 with his pair of RBI and a run scored, while Omar Bramasco was 1-for-2 with a run, reaching base a total of four times.
The Saltdogs and Wingnuts play the finale of their three-game series Sunday afternoon at 4:05. Righty Ryan Dittfurth is scheduled to make the start for Lincoln.
The Saltdogs' next homestand of the season begins on July 15th. For team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
