Grand Prairie, TX - For the second straight game the Grand Prairie AirHogs pitched a shutout. Kieran Mattison hurled seven scoreless innings in a 7-0 victory over the Fort Worth Cats on Saturday night.
Mattison (9-1) earned the victory for Grand Prairie. He allowed just five hits on three walks with six strikeouts.
Grand Prairie took the 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first inning. David Espinosa reached on a walk and would reach third base after tagging from second on a Munoz fly out. He was plated with two away on a throwing error from the shortstop Nilson Teilon to first base that pulled John Allen off the bag.
The AirHogs put another run on the board in the bottom of the third. With Brandon Carter over at third base, Billy Munoz drilled an RBI double off the base of the wall in center field allowing Grand Prairie to go up 2-0.
Derek Nicholson torched a solo blast to center field to push the AirHogs lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
Grand Prairie opened up the scoring in the bottom of the fifth, bringing in three runs on three hits. With the bases full, Mike Conroy got the RBI as he was hit by pitch. Aaron Garza put the AirHogs ahead 6-0, knocking a bloop single into shallow center field to bring in two more runs.
The AirHogs added another run in the bottom of the seventh on a Mike Conroy RBI double off the wall in left field
Tim Haines (4-3) got the start for Fort Worth and was the losing pitcher. He lasted just 4.2 innings and allowed six runs, four earned, off of five hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
Grand Prairie will close out a three game series at home against the Cats on Sunday at 7:05 PM. RHP Matt Righter (1-0, 3.00 ERA) will face LHP Pedro Flores (8-1, 3.00 ERA).
