Norfolk Admirals News Release
TAMPA BAY, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have assigned goaltender Mike Smith to the Admirals today, Lightning Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced.
Smith, 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, appeared in two games with the Admirals on a conditioning stint last month, posting a 0-2-0 record with a 2.56 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage. He has also played in 17 games with the Lightning this season, posting a 10-5-0 record with a 3.20 goals-against average and a .883 save percentage.
A native of Kingston, Ontario, Smith has appeared in 157 NHL games with the Lightning and Dallas Stars. Smith has accumulated a 64-65-18 record with a .905 save percentage and a 2.74 goals-against average. He was named to the 2006-07 NHL All-Rookie Team. In 129 career AHL games between Norfolk, the Utah Grizzlies, Houston Aeros and Iowa Stars, Smith has a 57-54-6 record with a 2.59 goals-against average and .914 save percentage.
Smith was acquired by Tampa Bay with Jeff Halpern, Jussi Jokinen and a fourth round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft from Dallas in exchange for Brad Richards and Johan Holmqvist on February 26, 2008. He was drafted by the Stars in the fifth round, 161st overall, in 2001.
The Admirals and Binghamton Senators will play a rematch of last night's contest tonight at Scope at 7:15 p.m. Join the Admirals for an encore performance of the national anthem by Elizabeth Hughes. One dollar of each ticket purchased for the game will be donated to Elizabeth's school, the Hebrew Academy of Tidewater.
Eight-year-old Elizabeth and Admirals fans inspired people across the country with a display of unity and composure on January 7 at Scope. Halfway through a beautiful rendition of the national anthem, Elizabeth's microphone malfunctioned and her voice was no longer carried through the Scope sound system. Without hesitation, Elizabeth maintained her poise and continued to sing as nearly 5,000 Admirals fans at Scope joined her in rousing fashion.
Individual tickets for all regular season games start at just $12. Tickets are available now at the Scope Box Office, all Ticketmaster Outlets, charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000 and online at ticketmaster.com.
