
Lexington Legends Welcome Six Millionth Fan in Series Opener with Columbia Fireflies

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) - The Lexington Legends welcomed their six millionth fan through the gates at Whitaker Bank Ballpark on Sunday, June 24. The Legends fell in the first game of the three game series to the Columbia Fireflies 5-3, dropping their record to 37-35 while improving Columbia's to 36-35.
The Fireflies recorded four of their five runs by way of the long ball. Raphael Gladu started the scoring for the Fireflies in the top of the second inning with a leadoff homerun to right field. Edgardo Fermin followed that up another solo shot in the top of the third. Quinn Brodey blasted a home run in the third, extending the Fireflies lead. Quinn Brodey also hit a homer in the fourth followed by the fourth home run of the game in the fifth by Blake Tiberi.
The Legends plated their first run of the game in the bottom of the third. Cal Jones was hit by a pitch then scored on an RBI single by Brewer Hicklen, putting Lexington on the board 2-1. Hicklen is currently on a seven-game hit streak.
In the top of the ninth inning, Giovanny Alfonzo doubled off the right centerfield wall then scored when the very next batter, Rigoberto Terrazas lined an RBI single down the right field line, extending Columbia's lead 5-2.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Seuly Matias crushed his 24th homer of the season to right field, but the Legends still trailed 5-3.
Zac Grotz was awarded the win for the Fireflies, pitching 8.0 innings allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out six. Garrett Davila was given the loss tossing 4.0 innings allowing three runs on four hits while walking one and striking out four.
The Legends and Fireflies will meet again tomorrow, June 25 at 7:05 p.m. Lexington will send RHP Holden Capps (0-0, 2.66 ERA) to face Columbia's RHP Yeizo Campos (1-0, 1.59 ERA). The Legends will welcome Peppa Pig and George to Whitaker Bank Ballpark on Monday, June 25. Fans of all ages can participate in a FREE meet and greet with pictures and autographs with the stars of the hit television show. Peppa Pig and George will be under the Kids Tent in the Toyota Triple Play Zone beginning at 6:30 p.m. to meet youngsters and take photos. Peppa won't be the only pig at Whitaker Bank Ballpark that night...it will also be the legendary Pig at the Park! Fans can bring their leashed pigs with a $2 donation to Scott County Humane Society. Pigs will be allowed in the Bullpen Patio, lawn (third base side), and in sections 114 and 214. Parking will also be free that night courtesy of Members Heritage Credit Union.
