Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, NY) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 6-5 on Wednesday night at Bethpage Ballpark in the fourth game of a five-game series.
Bridgeport took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a two-out, two-run double from James Simmons off Ducks starter Jared Lansford. Following a 27-minute rain delay in the middle of the sixth inning, the Ducks pulled within a run on an infield single to short by Brendan Harris and a throwing error, which scored Lew Ford.
Bridgeport increased its lead back to two on a RBI double from Ramon Castro in the top of the seventh. However, a five-run bottom of the seventh inning gave Long Island its first lead of the ballgame. Three consecutive RBI singles from Fehlandt Lentini, Cody Puckett and Ford, along with back-to-back bases loaded walks to Randy Ruiz and Harris, provided the damage.
The Bluefish plated two unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning on a RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Simmons and a throwing error from Dan Lyons. However, Bridgeport could not pull even.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Lansford allowed two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out five over six innings. Mitchell gave up one unearned run in six innings of work on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Josh Lansford (4-2) earned the win after allowing one run on three hits with one strikeout in one inning of relief. Ryan Harvey (0-1) took the loss, yielding three runs on three walks without recording an out in relief. Jon Meloan earned his ninth save of the year with a scoreless ninth inning.
Ford paced the Ducks' bats with three hits, while Lentini and Puckett each contributed with a run batted in and run scoredI.
Long Island and Bridgeport conclude their five-game set on Thursday night. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Pyrotecnico Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Atlantic Hyundai. Right-hander John Brownell takes the mound for the Ducks against Bluefish southpaw Hunter Jones.
