(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 6-2 in a rain-shortened game on Wednesday night at Bethpage Ballpark in the final game of a five-game series.

Bridgeport gained a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a fielder's choice from Ramon Castro and a throwing error which scored James Simmons. Long Island tied the game in the bottom of the third on a RBI single from Lew Ford off Bluefish starter Hunter Jones.

The Ducks took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run double from Fehlandt Lentini. The Bluefish responded in the fifth on a Prentice Redman solo home run off Ducks starter John Brownell, but the Flock plated three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to go up by four. A RBI single from Brendan Harris, a run-scoring error off the bat of Jan Vazquez and a run-scoring wild pitch did the damage.

It stayed that way until the bottom of the sixth inning when the skies opened up and the game was eventually called due to inclement weather.

Brownell (8-4) earned the win after allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four in six innings. Jones (3-7) received the loss, yielding six runs (five earned) on 10 hits and two walks with two strikeouts over five and one-third innings of work.

Ford led the Ducks' bats with three hits, while Lentini added two hits, two RBI and a run scored.

Long Island begins a three-game series with the Camden Riversharks on Friday night. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to an Independence Day Pyrotecnico Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Atlantic Honda. In addition, the Ducks will be wearing special camouflage jerseys which will be auctioned off during the game. Fans can place their bids by visiting the auction tables located on the concourse outside of the Waddle In Shop. Right-hander Bobby Blevins takes the mound for the Ducks against Camden righty Pedro Liriano.
