St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN – Donny Leon's bases-loaded single broke a 2-all tie and led the St. Paul Saints past Gary, 6-3, Sunday. Mike Meyer (1-3) went the first eight innings to earn the victory before 6,002 fans at Midway Stadium. The Saints split the four-game series with the Railcats and pushed their record to 12-11 overall.

Billy Munoz had three hits and Jeremy Frost homered for St. Paul. Tonayne Brown also had a pair of hits to stretch his hitting streak to eight consecutive games.

Gary (12-10) had rallied from an early deficit for a pair of runs off Meyer in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game. In the bottom of the inning, Greg Bruso (0-3) retired the first two batters he faced but Chad Ehrnsberger singled and Munoz doubled him to third. Brown was hit by a pitch. Leon then singled sharply to right field to score two runs. When Scott Samuels misplayed the ball, Brown ran home as well to make it 5-2. Frost, who is one of just three Northern Leaguers to reach base in every game he has played this season, then led off the sixth with a line drive over the left field fence to make it 6-2.

Samuels, an ex-Saint who went 9-for-14 in the series, got that one back with a poke of his own in the eighth but that was it.

Ex-Railcat righty Chris Andel worked a scoreless ninth to earn his first save. Meyer, who won eight games last year, scattered eight hits and was helped by a pair of double plays.

The Saints continue the homestand Monday when longtime rival Fargo-Moorhead visits Midway for a 7:05 p.m. game. Darren Truty (2-0) will start for St. Paul.
