Schaumburg Flyers News Release

SCHAUMBURG, IL – After scoring seven runs in each of the first two games against Joliet in this series, the Schaumburg Flyers had difficulty figuring out JackHammer starter Nathan Kent (2-2) on Sunday, June 12. Kent pitched a three-hit shutout as Joliet defeated the Flyers 6-0. Kent's complete game helped Joliet improve to 12-11. Flyer starter Anthony Boughner (2-3) allowed four runs in his seven-inning start and was charged with the loss. No Flyer got past second base on Sunday, and Schaumburg exited the series with a 6-17 record.

The JackHammers were the first to get on the board when 3B Josh Loggins (3-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI) belted a two-out solo homer to give his team an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Loggins led the Joliet charge again in the third inning with a leadoff double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. The following batter, DH Jayson Drobiak, skied a pitch from Boughner into shallow right field. Backpedaling into the outfield grass, Flyer 2B Bryan Russo seemed to lose track of the pop fly, and the ball dropped behind him. Loggins scored on the RBI single.

In the top of the fifth, Jermaine Allensworth (2-for-4, 2 R) led off the inning with a single. Kyle Logan followed suit with a single of his own, advancing Allensworth to third. Two consecutive sacrifice flies by Loggins and Drobiak drove runners in to extend the lead to 4-0.

Meanwhile, Kent cruised through the first two innings of play, facing the minimum. Geoff McCallum (2-for-4) was the first of two Flyers to get a hit in the afternoon contest, connecting on a two-out single in the third. Justin Hendrickson singled in the following inning, but from there Kent retired the next eleven batters in order.

Joliet added two more unearned runs to their lead in the ninth inning off reliever John Howerton, moving the tally to the eventual final score of 6-0.

On Monday, June 13, Schaumburg will play the Lincoln Saltdogs as they enter into the second of two series in the six-game homestand. Tickets are available for this contest as well as many others at flyersbaseball.com and (847) 891-2255. LHP R.J. Swindle will take the mound for Schaumburg.

Notes: Including the loss on Sunday, June 12, the Flyers have now been held scoreless twice this year... Gary recorded the other shutout on May 27...
