Springfield Falcons News Release
Grand Rapids, MI â Springfield Falcons rookie goaltender David LeNeveu (leh-NEHV-yoo) stopped 15 of 19 shots to post the second-best save percentage (.789) among five netminders during the 2004 AHL All-Star Skills Competition at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Sunday evening. Ryan Miller of the Rochester Americans turned aside 22 of 25 shots to register a save percentage of .880 and win the Pepsi Top Goaltender Award. The PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team overcame LeNeveu's Canadian AHL All-Stars, 18-9, to win the competition. A crowd of 9,019 attended the event.
LeNeveu did not allow a goal during the final two skills events. The 20-year-old stopped all three attempts in the Applebee's Pass and Score competition in which skaters tried to score on successive three-on-zero rushes. LeNeveu was able to deny each rush by All-Star forwards Jeff Hamilton of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Jozef Balej and Tomas Plekanec of the Hamilton Bulldogs in the event. The Fernie, British Columbia native then turned aside six breakaway attempts by six different players in the Kodak Breakaway Relay which concluded the competition. LeNeveu stopped four of five shots by Albany River Rats center Craig Darby and two of five shots by Providence Bruins forward Matt Herr during The Hockey News Rapid Fire competition in the night's first event in which goaltenders participated.
LeNeveu will take a turn in guarding the AHL Canadian All-Star team's net during tonight's AHL All-Star Game. The contest, which will wrap up the 2004 Pepsi AHL-Star Classic, will be televised on Fox Sports New England beginning at 7:00 p.m. tonight.
