(APPLEBEE'S PARK, Lexington, Ky.) The Lexington Legends took advantage of Bowling Green fielding miscues to build an early lead, and then broke the game open with two two-run homers as they beat the Hot Rods 8-1 at Applebee's Park Saturday night. Jay Austin walked to lead off the bottom of the first. When the last pitch to him went to the backstop, Austin rounded first base and headed for second. The throw went into center field, the first of six Bowling Green errors, and Austin continued to third. He scored on an infield out by Albert Cartwright. Russ Dixon reached second on a throwing error by shortstop Tim Beckham, and one out later, scored when a ball hit by Federico Hernandez got by third baseman Jeremy Beckham for an error.

The Legends added a run in the third when Cartwright scored on Hernandez' infield out. In the fourth, knuckleballer Diego Echeverria replaced starter Michael Jarman on the mound, and the Legends went to work quickly. Ebert Rosario doubled to lead off, and one out later, Cartwright homered to make it 5-0.

With one out in the fifth, Hernandez singled, Brandon Barnes tripled and Kyle Miller homered to give Lexington an 8-0 lead. Jake Jefferies hit a solo homer for Bowling Green in the top of the six to close out the scoring.

Legends starter Kyle Greenwalt (2-1) got the win. He pitched six innings, allowing three hits and the Jefferies home run. Michael Jarman (0-2) was the starter and loser for Bowling Green. The two teams meet again Sunday afternoon at 2:05 at Applebee's Park.
