Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Intimidators gave up five runs in the top of the ninth on Wednesday afternoon at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium to fall 6-4 to Hickory.

Kannapolis, who had blown just one lead all season up until Wednesday, led 4-1 going to the ninth. But Stephen Sauer could not shut the door, as the Crawdads rallied for five runs on six hits in the ninth. Sauer (1-2) was one strike away from getting out with a save, but David Paisano doubled down the leftfield line to drive in Jason Ogata from second.

Edward Martinez singled one batter later to put the Crawdads (10-10) ahead for good.

Lost in the late-inning meltdown was a great start from Dexter Carter. Carter did not allow a run in six innings. The 22-year-old right- hander also struck out six without walking a batter.

The Intimidators (12-8) jumped out to an early lead thanks to Justin Greene's second home run of the year to lead off the bottom of the first. Kannapolis pushed the advantage to three in the seventh with a pair of runs, though it could have been more. With one run already across, the Intimidators loaded the bases with no outs. Eduardo Escobar grounded into a double-play, scoring a run, but limiting the total to just two runs in the frame.

Yoon-Yee Nam (2-1) picked up the win with a perfect eighth inning for Hickory (10-10). Matt Nevarez earned his second save of the series with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
