Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - Second baseman Steve Lombardozzi singled through the right side of the infield with two men on in the bottom of the sixth inning to push home the go-ahead runs as the Hagerstown Suns (6-11) fought back for a 7-5 win over the Lake County Captains (8-11) on Wednesday.

After climbing out of an early 1-0 hole, the Suns came to bat in the sixth trailing again, 5-4, following three runs by the Captains in the top of the inning. With one out, catcher Sandy Leon and right fielder Stephen Englund connected for back-to-back singles, but Leon was tossed out at the plate on a fielder's choice and leftfielder Robbie Jacobsen came to the plate with two men down. Jacobsen drove a double under the thirdbaseman's glove to plate Englund and set up Lombardozzi's go-ahead single, which saved the Suns from a sweep at the hands of Lake County and snapped a six-game losing skid.

Lombardozzi and Jacobsen each picked up three hits for Hagerstown, with Jacobsen rewarding the confidence manager Matt LeCroy showed in him by inserting him into the leadoff spot for the first time all season. Jacobsen raised his season batting average to a team-high .333 with his three-hit, three-run performance, while Lombardozzi went three-for-five with two runs and four runs batted in.

The one-two punch of Jacobsen and Lombardozzi at the top of the order was also responsible for getting the Suns going in the first inning, after the Captains took an early 1-0 lead. Jacobsen led the game off with a single, and Lombardozzi tripled him home, then scored on a sacrifice fly by designated hitter Derek Norris.

Starting pitcher Jack McGeary kept Hagerstown in the game through five innings, surrendering just two runs and passing things on to the bullpen. Carlos Peralta (3-1) earned the win, and Osvaldo Rodriguez notched his second save of the season, striking out three and lowering his earned-run average to 1.86 over two innings of scoreless relief.

The Suns open a four-game series at West Virginia on Thursday, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05. Hagerstown returns home on Tuesday, May 5 for a seven-game homestand, which starts with a 6:35 game against Greensboro that will be a Senior Day and a Bingo Tuesday, presented by Equipped for Life.
