
Legends Win Second Half Opener, 6-2

Elier Hernandez had three hits and three runs batted in as the Lexington Legends opened the second half of the 2015 South Atlantic League season with a 6-2 win over the Savannah Sand Gnats Thursday night in Savannah.
A two-run triple by Samir Duenez put the Legends in front in the second inning. Corey Toups led off the third with his fourth home run of the year to make the score 3-0. Humberto Arteaga and Ryan O'Hearn followed with singles, and Arteaga advanced to third on an error by left fielder Vicente Lupo. Arteaga scored on Hernandez' sacrifice fly.
The Legends extended their lead to 5-0 in the fifth when Toups singled, stole second, and scored on a two-out single by Hernandez.
The Sand Gnats came back with two in the bottom of the fifth on a single by Jean Rodriguez and a home run by Lupo.
Lexington added its final run in the seventh when Toups was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a sacrifice by Arteaga and scored on Hernandez' single to right field.
Legends' starter Scott Blewett (2-0) got the win. He worked six innings, allowed five hits and two runs. He didn't walk a batter and struck out three. Kyle Zimmer pitched the seventh and eighth innings and allowed one hit and no runs. Evan Beal retired the side in order in the ninth.
Savannah starter Casey Delgado (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season.
Game two of the five-game series will be played Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
