Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - The Greenville Drive couldn't have asked for a better start to the second half of the 2015 season. 6,372 fans were on hand at Fluor Field on Thursday to see a terrific pitching performance from Jeffry Fernandez and a solid offensive night in a 4-0 victory over the Charleston RiverDogs.

Fernandez (2-5) put together his best start of the year, working efficiently and throwing strikes en route to six shutout innings with no walks and six strikeouts while allowing just three hits.

He got all the offense he would need in the bottom of the first, when the Drive (1-0, 39-32) plated a pair of runs off RiverDogs (0-1, 34-37) starter Justin Kamplain (2-9). Yoan Moncada and Michael Chavis responded well to their newfound spots at the top of the Greenville lineup, as their back-to-back doubles put the first run on the board. Later in the inning, an infield single by Javier Guerra made the score 2-0.

Moncada did all the damage in the seventh, singling with one out, swiping second and third and coming in on a passed ball. Eighth-inning doubles by Nick Longhi and Mike Meyers tacked on the Drive's final run of the evening.

Kuehl McEachern preserved the shutout over the final three innings and recorded his fifth save of the year.

The Drive were led offensively by Meyers and Moncada, who each picked up two hits.

Game two of the five-game series, part of the Battle of the Palmetto State presented by Spinx, begins at 7:05 on Friday night. RH Reed Reilly (4-3, 3.74) takes the ball for the Drive, and the RiverDogs will counter with RH David Palladino (1-4, 3.44).
