Lexington Legends News Release
Legends win in 12th in wild finish, 8-7 Two Rome miscues and two hit batsmen in the 12th inning helped the Lexington Legends rally for an 8-7 win over the Rome Braves Saturday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The Braves had taken a 7-5 lead in the top of the 12th on a two-run homer by Edward Salcedo. Tyler Burnett led off the bottom of the 12th with a walk, and moved to second when shortstop Matt Lipka mishandled a ground ball hit by Daniel Adamson. Ben Orloff popped out while attempting to sacrifice, but Delino DeShields Jr. grounded a single into center field, scoring Burnett to cut the lead to one. Jay Austin hit into a force play at second for the second out, leaving runners at first and third. Emilio King lifted an apparent game-ending pop fly to the right side of the infield, but second baseman Matt Weaver, after calling off first baseman Chris Garcia, dropped the ball. Adamson scored the tying run, Austin went to third base and King stopped at first. Telvin Nash was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and then Roberto Pena was hit by a pitch, forcing in Austin with the winning run. Rome opened the scoring with two runs in the first. Tony Mueller led off with a single. One out later, Salcedo singled, advancing Mueller to third. Garcia then doubled, scoring Mueller and Salcedo. Lexington took the lead with three runs in the fourth. Nash led off with a double, and moved to third on a single by Ben Heath. Mike Kvasnicka, who had four hits in the game, doubled, scoring Nash and advancing Heath to third. One out later, Daniel Adamson singled to left, scoring Heath and Kvasnicka to give Lexington a 3-2 lead. The Legends added a run in the fifth when Austin doubled, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch, but the Braves tied the game in the sixth on a two-run homer by Robby Hefflinger. Rome took a 5-4 lead in the eighth on a walk to Garcia, a wild pitch and a single by David Rohm. The Legends tied it in their half of the eighth. Kvasnicka led off with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. One out later, DeShields singled, scoring Kvasnicka with the tying run. The game remained tied 5-5 until Salcedo's homer in the 12th. Jorge DeLeon (6-4) got the win in relief. Danilo Alavarez (4-4), who worked the last three innings, took the loss. The Legends have taken two out of three in the series, which concludes Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
