Hefflinger's Homer in 7th Sends Rome to 3-2 Win

Robby Hefflinger's solo home run in the seventh inning broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Rome Braves a 3-2 win over the Lexington Legends Sunday.

Lexington took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Delino DeShields Jr. reached on an error by shortstop Fernando De Los Santos. Ben Orloff followed with a single. A wild pitch moved the runners to second and third, and Mike Kvasnicka walked to load the bases. Telvin Nash struck out, but Ben Heath hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring DeShields and moving Orloff to third. Daniel Adamson followed with a single, scoring Orloff with the second run.

Rome got one run back in the fourth. Tony Mueller led off with a single, moved to second on a single by Edward Salcedo and scored on a base hit by Chris Garcia.

The Braves tied the game in the sixth. Mueller reached on a throwing error by Orloff, the shortstop. Tommy La Stella singled, moving Mueller to second. Salcedo sacrificed the runners to second and third, and Mueller scored the tying run as Garcia grounded out.

Hefflinger led off the seventh with his sixth home run of the year to give Rome its final margin.

With the win, the Braves earned a split of the four-game series. Ronan Pacheco (3-6) got the win in relief, and Cody Martin picked up his third save. Legends reliever Gabriel Garcia (1-4) was the losing pitcher.

Lexington starter Mike Foltynewicz worked six innings and allowed two runs, one earned. Braves' starter Carlos Perez went five innings and allowed two unearned runs.

The Legends open a four- game series with Kannapolis Monday evening at Whitaker Bank Ballpark . First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
