Lakewood Wins Second Straight over West Virginia

CHARLESTON, WV- The Lakewood BlueClaws beat the West Virginia Power 6-1 on Sunday. It was the second straight win for Lakewood after they dropped the series first 2 games to the Power. The BlueClaws salvaged a split of the series with the win, and kept the pressure on Hickory and Kannapolis in the South Atlantic League Northern Division playoff race.

Lakewood out hit West Virginia 11-6 in the game, including a monster Home Run by Anthony Hewitt. The HR was the 11th of the year for Hewitt as he was 2-4 with the HR, 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored in the game. Edgar Duran hit lead off and did a very nice job going 3-4 for the BlueClaws. OF's Domingo Santana and Bill Rice each went 2-4 in the game as well for Lakewood.

With the promotion of Lakewood's ace starting pitcher David Buchanan up to High A Clearwater on Saturday, LHP Mario Hollands was called on to make the spot start for Lakewood. He pitched well allowing just 1 run over 3 innings. The bullpen did a great job with Lendy Castillo tossing 3 innings of 2 hit shutout ball to earn the win and improve to 3-1 for Lakewood. Chase Johnson pitched 1 2/3rds shutout ball, the Zach Duke got the final 4 outs to collect his 4th save for Lakewood.

Lakewood is hitting the road now to head to Salisbury, MD to open up a 4 game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds beginning on Monday night. LHP Jesse Biddle (5-6, 3.18 ERA) will start game 1 of the series for Lakewood, and Delmarva will send out RHP David Baker (1-1, 1.80 ERA). First Pitch on Monday is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
