Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - Sunday was not a fun day for the Augusta GreenJackets' hitters, putting multiple runners on base in just one inning during the entire game in a 7-0 loss to the Hickory Crawdads - Augusta's tenth shutout loss of the year. The Crawdads salvaged a series split with their win over Augusta in the matinee series finale.

Hickory roughed up GreenJackets starter Mike Kickham from the get-go, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Josh Richmond's RBI double. They added to the advantage in the third on RBI doubles by Andrew Clark and Alejandro Selen to take a 3-0 lead over the GreenJackets. Selen again tagged Kickham in the fifth, doubling home a pair of runs to put Hickory up 5-0 and chase Kickham from the game. Braxton Lane's RBI single scored Selen while Lane scored on a run-scoring hit by Christian Villanueva to complete the four-run frame and give Hickory a commanding 7-0 lead.

Kickham (2-7) was chased after four-plus innings, allowing six runs on ten hits and four walks while striking out a pair. He faced at least five hitters in every inning he completed.

The GreenJackets were shut down by Crawdads starter Roman Mendez through the first five innings, but showed some life in the sixth. Down 7-0, the GreenJackets loaded the bases on a tiring Mendez with a hit and a pair of walks. Rafael Rodriguez popped out on the first pitch he saw from Mendez to end the inning - the only time in the whole game the GreenJackets had more than one baserunner in an inning and the only time they got a man past second.

Clutch hitting was not present at all for the GreenJackets, going 0-7 at the plate with runners in scoring position and stranding nine in the shutout loss. The Crawdads retired the side in order just twice, but the GreenJackets failed to take advantage of their scoring chances.

Mendez (9-1) won his fifth straight decision and his third in his last four starts, firing six shutout innings of three-hit ball. He walked three and struck out seven in the win.

Despite the loss, the GreenJackets still finished July with a 16-11 record, making it the only calendar month where the GreenJackets have posted a winning record.

The GreenJackets travel to Savannah to open a pivotal series with the first-place Sand Gnats on Monday. Ryan Bradley (1-1, 4.87) takes the ball in the series opener and will face Savannah's Angel Cuan (9-1, 3.02) in a battle of lefties. First pitch comes at 7:05 p.m. with radio pregame coverage beginning at 6:50, airing on WRDW-AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .

Single-game tickets for any GreenJackets home game are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
