April 10, 2015 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lexington Legends News Release

(CHARLESTON, S. C.) Lexington starter Matt Tenuta pitched five scoreless innings, and the Legends went on to a 3-1 win over the Charleston RiverDogs Friday night. Jake Newberry pitched three hitless innings in relief of Tenuta, and Charleston scored an unearned run in the ninth against Matt Strahm to avoid the shutout.

The Legends are now 2-0 for the 2015 season.

The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning on a single by Mike Hill and a double by Kyle Pollock.

Lexington added two unearned runs in the sixth. Ryan O'Hearn reached first on an error by third baseman Abiatal Avelino. After Wander Franco popped out, Rony Bautista relieved starter Chaz Hebert for Charleston. Samir Duenez walked, moving O'Hearn to second, and the runners moved up on a balk. Brandon Downes walked, loading the bases. Hill grounded to first baseman Connor Spencer, who threw to shortstop Jorge Mateo for a force at second base as O'Hearn scored. Mateo threw past first base for an error, allowing Duenez to score.

In the bottom of the ninth, Avelino reached first on an error by second baseman Corey Toups, stole second and third and came home on a throwing error by Pollock, the catcher. But Strahm retired Mateo on a ground out and struck out Dustin Fowler. A walk to Spencer brought the tying run to the plate, but Strahm fanned Chris Breen to end the game.

Lexington pitchers limited the RiverDogs to three hits. Tenuta (1-0) got the win. Charleston starter Chaz Hebert (0-1) was the losing pitcher.

Game three of the four-game series will be played Saturday evening. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
