Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Offense was the story at Fluor Field on Friday night, as the Greenville Drive (1-1) and the Augusta GreenJackets (1-1) combined for 31 hits, but Augusta used the home run to their advantage, as they smacked three to come away with a 9-6 victory.
Jonah Arenado was the big bat for the GreenJackets, as he went 3-5 with a pair of homers and three RBI. He drove a Williams Jerez offering over the Green Monster for a two-run homer in the fifth inning to make the score 6-2, and his solo homer off Jake Drehoff in the ninth gave Augusta some insurance.
Augusta jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first two innings off Jamie Callahan (0-1). Aramis Garcia singled home a run in the first, Hunter Cole's single scored another in the second, and Jeremy Sy tripled home a pair.
The offensive effort of Javier Guerra helped bring the Drive back in the game. He drove home Nick Longhi with a single in the second inning, smacked an opposite field homer over the Green Monster in the fourth and collected another RBI single in the seventh. He finished the night 4-4 with two runs and three RBIs and finished a triple shy of the cycle.
Friday's game saw 10 players collect at least two hits. Joining Arenado with multi-hit nights for Augusta were Sy, who went 2-5 with four RBIs, including a two-run homer in the sixth, Hunter Cole, Joneshwy Fargas, Randy Ortiz and John Riley.
Rafael Devers had three hits for Greenville, and Longhi and Jordan Procyshen added two hits apiece.
Nathanael Santiago (1-0) got the win for the GreenJackets despite allowing three earned runs in two and two-third innings. Raymundo Montero struck out three in two scoreless frames to pick up his first save.
The series continues on Saturday night at Fluor Field, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05. LH Jalen Beeks gets the start for the Drive, and Boston Red Sox closer Koji Uehara will make a relief appearance during the game as part of his rehab from a hamstring injury. Augusta will send LH Mark Reyes to the mound.
