Legends Unlucky in Showcase Opener

LAS VEGAS, NV - The Texas Legends (9-8) opened the 2019 NBA G League Winter Showcase against the Windy City Bulls (8-7), falling 111-126.

Dakota Mathias fired off the first shot for Texas to go up 3-0 early. Windy City stayed within four, tying it up three times before grabbing the lead midway through the first. The Bulls finished the quarter with six unanswered to go up 32-21 at the buzzer. Windy City maintained their double-digit advantage through the second, doubling the gap (+22) at the half.

The Bulls took their largest lead of the night (+28) early in the third but Texas came out firing. Behind a 14-point output from Nate Mason, Texas finished with 44 in the quarter but faced a 12-point deficit going into the final minutes. Windy City held the Legends at bay, sustaining their double-digit lead through the second half.

Nate Mason led the Legends with 22 points, 7 assists while Josh Reaves added 21 points, 3 assists. Antonius Cleveland grabbed his second straight double-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds. Moses Brown came off the bench for 14 points, 8 rebounds joined by Brandon Fields who knocked down 3-of-5 outside for 13 points and 4 assists. Dakota Mathias rounded out the double-digit scores with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and a game-high 4 steals.

Cristiano Felicio finished with a game-high 25 points for Windy City with 10 rebounds while PJ Dozier tagged in for 24 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists. Milton Doyle added 21 points, 8 assists, and 4 steals.

The Bulls finished at 56% overall and 42% from outside while Texas landed 44% from the field and 38% outside. Windy City also won the battle on the boards 46-41 while dishing out 29 assists to Texas' 22.
