LAS VEGAS, NV - The Canton Charge defeated the Maine Red Claws 118-113 to tip off the 2019 MGM Resorts NBA G League Winter Showcase. The Charge improve to 11-5 on the season with the win while the Red Claws drop to 9-5.
With less than a minute remaining and the game tied at 113, Malik Newman hit a deep, go-ahead three to give the Charge the advantage. The Canton guard led all scorers with 29 points on 9-for-17 shooting from the field, 5-of-8 from three-point range. This marks the eighth time this season Newman has scored 20-plus points in a game.
J.P. Macura also added 21 points and center Marques Bolden paced the defensive effort for Canton with nine rebounds.
The Red Claws backcourt led the way for Maine. Boston Celtics two-way guard Tremont Waters shot 11-of-20 from the field for 27 points and dished out nine assists while Boston assignment player Carsen Edwards added 23 points.
