Behind the pitching of Carlos Quevedo, the Lexington Legends defeated the Kannapolis Intimidators 5-1 Wednesday night.

Quevedo (7-4) tossed seven shutout innings. He allowed six hits, struck out seven batters and walked none to earn the victory.

Lexington opened the scoring with one run in the third inning. Bryce Lane led off with a single, advanced to second on Roberto Pena's ground out, and scored on a two-out single by Jay Austin.

The Legends added three runs in the fifth. Lane led off with a double, the first of five straight hits by the Legends. Lane moved to third on Pena's single, and scored on a single by Hector Rodriguez, who was playing his first game for Lexington since being transferred from Tri-City in the New York-Penn League. Austin followed with a single to load the bases. Ben Orloff then singled to score Pena, and the bases remained loaded. Mike Kvasnicka hit into a force play at second as Rodriguez scored to give the Legends a 4-0 lead.

Lexington added another run in the seventh. Leadoff hitter Jay Austin was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Orloff sacrificed him to third, and Kvansicka's grounder to shortstop drove in the run. Kannapolis scored its only run in the ninth. Marcus Semien singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on Drew Lee's fly out. He scored on Orloff's fielding error on a ground ball hit by Miguel Rodriguez.

Intimidators' starter Matt Heidenreich (9-7) was handed the loss.

The Legends and the Intimidators will play the series finale on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
