Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

SALISBURY, MD- It was another close ballgame all the way until the end, but Lakewood came out on top 3-0 in the end. The BlueClaws and Delmarva Shorebirds were scoreless through 8 innings, and it looked like it might be an extra innings affair on Wednesday night. Anthony Hewitt broke the scoreless tie with a 2 run Home Run off of Delmarva reliever David Walters to put Lakewood on top, and they held on in the bottom of the 9th to earn their 2nd straight win.

It was a very uneventful first 8 innings with not a single run scored, but then in the 9th inning it got exciting. David Walters retired the first 2 batters he faced in the 9th getting Geancarlo Mendez to pop out to 2B, then striking out Jim Murphy swinging. With 2 outs, and nobody on Domingo Santana hit a ground ball single into RF to extend the inning. Anthony Hewitt then broke the tie with a 2-run HR over the LF wall and win it for Lakewood.

Garett Claypool pitched a great game for the BlueClaws, but yet again was the victim of a lack of run support. Claypool allowed just 5 hits and no runs over 6 innings while shutting out the Shorebirds. Lendy Castillo got the win out of the bullpen with a no hit performance over his 2 innings of work. Ryan Duke then closed the door on Delmarva in the 9th with a 1-2-3 inning to earn his 5th save as a BlueClaw.

Thursday the BlueClaws will try to win the series as they send out RHP Lisalberto Bonilla (2-3, 2.40 ERA). RHP Jake Cowan will make his debut with Delmarva in the series finale on Thursday. First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
