Hickory Crawdads News Release
HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads, 1st-Half Northern Division Champions, fell to the Hagerstown Suns, 12-0, before 888 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Suns (60-48, 20-18) jumped in front with a powerful second inning against RHP Joe Van Meter (L, 5-4). A pair of two-run homers by SS Jason Martinson and C Adrian Nieto were the big blows in the frame, punctuated by an RBI single by LF Sean Nicol to make it 5-0. Martinson then struck again with an RBI double in the third, stretching the lead to 6-0 for the Suns.
Hagerstown knocked in a seventh run against RHP Matt Thompson and the Crawdads (63-44, 23-16) in the top of the sixth, before striking for five more in the top of the eighth. A two-run double by RF Kevin Keyes and a three-run triple by 1B Brett Newsome did the damage, lifting Hagerstown's lead to 12-0.
Suns LHP Ryan Demmin (W, 2-1) dealt the first six innings, and was followed by three scoreless relief frames by RHP Collin Bates (S, 1) to close the 12-0 win for Hagerstown.
